First Book of Esdras Study Intro Available – Study Starts January 15

jmartwalNews & Events

Beginning in January, we will have a new study — the First Book of Esdras: An Introduction to the Apocrypha.  It will be a five-week Zoom study, with an in-person option, beginning Monday, January 15th.  A video introduction to our new study of the First Book of Esdras is now available online! Click here to watch.

Esdras tells the story of the Exile, the return from Exile and the rebuilding of the temple — roughly the period from late seventh century b.c.e. to the fifth century. Josiah, perhaps the last great king of Israel; Zerubbabel, who led the rebuilding of the temple; and Ezra, considered by many to be a second Moses, are the leading figures in the narrative. This study also serves as an introduction to the Apocrypha and the Septuagint.

The class begins Monday, January 15th. A sign-up sheet is available in the Narthex, or you can send an email to [email protected]. There will be a thirty-minute video and a handout online each week, followed by a discussion session on Monday evenings.
