April 19, 2018 – Prayer in School

Knowledge is the key to a whole lot of things. I want to provide some info that I hope will shed some light on a statement that I heard last night and I hear people repeat a great deal in public. What I disagree with as a “true” fact. That statement is “We’ve or they’ve take prayer out of our schools.”

This is not correct, what has happen is no children is picked out to go to the office and get on the PA system and do a prayer to and for the whole school. But each school in the state of Texas must provide a one minute time of silence for all student to spend some time with God. What has happened is that we the parents and the church have failed to teach our children to use that time to pray and meet God in that place of quietness to be thankful and ask for blessings on all those around them. We have not done our job! Stop relying on the school to do what we should be doing in the first place.

So I asked the individuals if I might share something with them. So I showed them the following. I am posting the statute from the state of Texas;
Here’s the link to the information on the TEC website! http://codes.findlaw.com/…/education-…/educ-sect-25-082.html

And here is the Code verbatim:

(d) The board of trustees of each school district and the governing board of each open-enrollment charter school shall provide for the observance of one minute of silence at each campus following the recitation of the pledges of allegiance to the United States and Texas flags under Subsection (b). During the one-minute period, each student may, as the student chooses, reflect, pray, meditate, or engage in any other silent activity that is not likely to interfere with or distract another student. Each teacher or other school employee in charge of students during that period shall ensure that each of those students remains silent and does not act in a manner that is likely to interfere with or distract another student.

Their response afterward was “I didn’t know that”. So, you see we can exchange info that is helpful to each other without getting into an argument.

If you do not live in the state of Texas, I would suggest you contact or look up your state’s Education Code and see what they say, cause, as we know, all states are different.

Now let’s proceed to MAKE it a great day!
